Those vowels having longer vertical strokes will always carry consonants on the left of it while horizontal vowels carry them on top.

No Korean vowels can stand alone at the beginning of a Korean syllable without a preceding consonant, but if it has no consonant sound value of its own, it must be preceded by the consonant u2018u3147u2019, which is silent when positioned at the beginning of a syllable.
